MRK Services - Our New Office

After several years of use our old porta kabin office had seen better days so we decided to replace it. We did some research into possible replacements, cost, time-scales etc. but nothing quite fitted our requirements. We contacted Dale Abbott (Abbott Building & Landscaping Services) who had previously done some building work for us for his help and advice.

Dale came up with the idea of “What about a shed?”

At first we were not convinced it would work but Dale showed us examples of a local company’s work who offered a bespoke service and their contact details. I contacted MGB sheds and we arranged to meet later that day. I turned up at the office with my basic sketch, within 20 minutes we had gone through all the various materials, windows, doors, roof, you name it we had sorted it out.

Mickeys help and advice was great. We arranged for the new office to be installed the end of October.  Dale prepared the site and laid a concrete base. The installation process was quick and easily completed. Dale fully insulated the building and we have now moved in.
We have been really impressed by Mickeys work, the quality of workmanship and general customer service has been second to none. We can’t thank him enough.

We would certainly recommend both Dale and Mickey, it is great to find tradesmen who are genuine, hard working and extremely knowledgeable.

Hi all, our blog post for this week in an extract from an article that was published in in the SelfBuild & Design Magazine Feb 2007. Have a read of it below.

“When we first cleared the site, we came across the iron rims and axles from an ancient cart, and we’d had the idea of turning them into a sculpture for the courtyard. The man with apparently the right credentials is in a nearby village. “Is that Mick Keepence?” “I’m afraid so’ comes the response with a twinkle in his voice.

Mick is a tonic. ‘Ahh, tyres,’ he says patting the giant rusty iron rims. He tells me how the old wheelwrights used to forge-weld them, then get them red hot so they’d clamp onto a wooden spoke-frame as they cooled.

First, Mick shot blasts our iron to clean it up. Then he tacks the rims and axles together, and patiently he breaks them apart again when I want to do something different. His son helps him heave the result down from the work-bench, and his wife and daughter – half a dozen beagle puppies at their heels – join in the debate on what colour the sculpture should be powder coated. Must be the selfbuilder’s heaven, this!

Mr Taylor has since then wrote a book on his wonderful self build experience and we are proud to be mentioned in this.
